What are fascia and soffits?

What are fascias?

A fascia board is a long, straight board that runs along the lower edge of your roofline. Usually fitted to the bottom ends of the roof trusses, fascias work to support the bottom row of tiles and carry the guttering. In addition, fascias are used to disguise and protect the ends of your roof rafters.

What is a soffit?

Soffit boards are hidden below fascia boards and are typically the exposed underside of a roof overhand or eave. Whereas fascias are generally used to support the roofline, soffits are used to provide ventilation inside your roof and prevent dampness and condensation from forming.

Do you need both the soffit and fascia?

Fascias and soffits are integral to safeguarding your roofline and home. There are three main reasons for installing both fascias and soffits…

Ventilation

Fascias and soffits have installed vent systems which work to allow the hot air within your property to escape and be replaced with cool fresh air. If UPVC fascias and soffits aren’t installed, you could end up battling with overheating, condensation damage, mould, mildew, and rot. This in turn could lead to expensive repairs.

Sealing your roofline

UPVC fascias and soffits provide a protective seal for your roofline to safeguard your roof and home against external elements, water ingress, mould, mildew and rot. It also stops pests from gaining access to your roof and loft. Fascias and soffits both provide necessary functions to your home and without them, you could face costly and time-consuming problems.

Aesthetics

Installing UPVC fascias and soffits to your roofline will deliver a uniform and ‘finished’ look to your property. Furthermore, soffits and fascias are available in a broad range of colours and finishes so you can perfectly match the existing exterior of your property. UPVC fascias and soffits are a popular choice as they are incredibly low-maintenance and come in a selection of finishes.

When should I replace my UPVC fascias and soffits?

All our soffits and facias come with a 20-year guarantee, giving you the peace of mind that your home is protected. However, there are some warning signs that they may need repairing or replacing sooner…

If water is leaking.

If there are signs of pests or nesting birds.

If the pain has cracked, blistered or peeled.

If you notice rust or watermarks.

If fixtures are broken or your guttering is sagging.

If you notice poor ventilation within your home.

If you notice any of these issues, then we recommend getting in touch with us today.

How are UPVC soffits and fascias installed?

1

Remove Gutters

We will remove your existing guttering. Then the first row of roof tiles will be shifted to allow space for your new fascias and soffits.
2

Remove Soffits & Fascias

Next, we will remove the existing fascias and soffits. Then, we will trim back any damaged felt to leave an exposed area to work on.
3

Check Rafter Condition

We will undertake safety checks on your rafters. This is vital to ensure that your rafters are in a good condition to be built upon.
4

Attach Soffits & Fascias

If your rafters are approved, we will attach the soffit board to your brickwork. Then, using a double fix to every rafter, we will attach the fascia board.
5

Install Rainwater System

Once your UPVC fascias and soffits are in place, we will install your rainwater system. Your guttering is essential to allow water to drain.
6

Clean

Finally, we will ensure that your roofline is fully cleaned and structurally sound before we leave. We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction.

What are the benefits of UPVC fascias and soffits?

Low Maintenance

Once installed, UPVC fascias and soffits are relatively maintenance-free. While they may require cleaning every so often to keep them looking clean and fresh, they don’t require treating or staining, unlike wood.

Affordable
