What are bargeboards on a house?

Bargeboards are similar to fascias in that they are both longboards that run along the lower edge of your roofline. Where fascias run horizontally, support the roof tiles and carry the guttering, bargeboards are installed at the gable end of the roof and run diagonally. There are several different types of bargeboard to choose from – square, bullnose and flat.

What do bargeboards do?

Bargeboards provide two main functions for your home, here’s what bargeboards do…

Sealing your roofline

Bargeboards provide a protective seal for your roofline to safeguard your roof timber and home against external elements, water ingress, mould, mildew and rot. They also stop pests from gaining access to your roof and loft. Bargeboards provide necessary functions to your home and without them, you could face costly and time-consuming problems.

Aesthetics

Installing bargeboards to your roofline will deliver a uniform and ‘finished’ look to your property. Furthermore, they are available in a broad range of colours and finishes so you can perfectly match the existing exterior of your property. Our bargeboards are a popular choice as they are incredibly low-maintenance and come in a selection of finishes.

What are bargeboards made of?

In the past, bargeboards were made from wood. These days though, they are more commonly constructed in UPVC which is highly waterproof and resilient to corrosion and UV rays. Additionally, although they are popular in white, UPVC bargeboards are also available in brown and woodgrain effect – great for those with period properties.

When should I replace my bargeboards?

All our bargeboards come with a 20-year guarantee, giving you the peace of mind that your home is protected. However, there are some warning signs that they may need repairing or replacing sooner…

If water is leaking.

If there are signs of pests or nesting birds.

If the pain has cracked, blistered or peeled.

If you notice rust or watermarks.

If fixtures are broken or your guttering is sagging.

If you notice poor ventilation within your home.

If you notice any of these issues, then we recommend getting in touch with us today.

What are the benefits of UPVC bargeboards?

Low Maintenance

Once installed, UPVC bargeboards are relatively maintenance-free. While they may require cleaning every so often to keep them looking clean and fresh, they don’t require treating or staining, unlike wood.

Affordable

UPVC bargeboards are some of the most affordable on the market. Furthermore, our products are underpinned by competitive pricing, and we deliver unbeatable prices that don’t compromise the results that you receive.

Waterproof

UPVC is highly waterproof and won’t absorb moisture in the same way other materials might, such as wood. Furthermore, UPVC is resilient to corrosion and UV rays so your bargeboard is protected against the elements.

20-Year Guarantee

Our UPVC bargeboards come with a 20-year guarantee. This assures you that your property is protected against condensation damage, mould, mildew, and rot for years to come. In addition, your roof lining will remain dry and free from any gaps or holes.

How are bargeboards installed?

1

Remove Bargeboard

We will remove your existing bargeboard and soffit. Then the first row of roof tiles will be shifted to allow space.
2

Secure Bargeboard

Using a hammer and plastic-capped nails, we will secure the new plastic soffits and bargeboards to the roof joists.
3

Connect

Next, we will construct a box end section connecting the bargeboards to the fascias at the eaves level.
4

Clean

Finally, we will ensure that your roofline is fully clean, functioning and structurally sound before we leave.

How much does a bargeboard cost?

The average cost of a plastic UPVC bargeboard in the UK is around £600, however, we recommend getting in touch with us to discuss your requirements. Then, we can provide you with an accurate quote.

UPVC Fascias & Soffits

For a roof system that provides complete ventilation combined with being completely watertight, we recommend our UPVC fascias and soffits. In addition to installing high-quality bargeboards, fascias and soffits work to safeguard your home and provide ventilation and a protective seal for your home. Along with guttering and bargeboards, UPVC fascias and soffits protect your home against external elements, water ingress, mould, mildew and rot. They also stop pests from gaining access to your roof and loft. Fascias and soffits both provide necessary functions to your home and without them, you could face costly and time-consuming problems.
