A fascia board is a long, straight board that runs along the lower edge of your roofline. Usually fitted to the bottom ends of the roof trusses, fascias work to support the bottom row of tiles and carry the guttering. In addition, fascias are used to disguise and protect the ends of your roof rafters.
Guttering comprises small, thin troughs or channels that are fixed to the lower edge of a roofline. It provides a necessary function to allow rainwater to flow off and away from your roof to safeguard your property. Guttering comes in a broad choice of materials and styles including metal, UPVC, PVC and concrete. In homes, they are typically made from plastic or metal.
Bargeboards are similar to fascias in that they are both long boards that run along the lower edge of your roofline. Where fascias run horizontally, support the roof tiles and carry the guttering, bargeboards are installed at the gable end of the roof and run diagonally. There are several different types of bargeboard to choose from – square, bullnose and flat.
Cladding refers to the material used to cover the exterior of a property and is either attached to the walls or fixed to supporting battens. External cladding is used to protect the materials used for exterior walls such as brick, stone and timber. Cladding is practical, as it safeguards your property, but in recent years it has also been used for aesthetic reasons.

In the past, Tudor homes were constructed using a timber frame. This comprised oak timber posts and beams which were filled with wattle and daub. Wattle and daub was a woven lattice of wooden strips called wattle that was ‘daubed’ with a combination of wet soil, clay, sand, animal dung and straw. This surface was then whitewashed to protect it against the elements. Unsurprisingly, this method of external cladding is no longer used, however, the look and feel of Tudor cladding are still desirable. Which is where we come in!
